Antone V. Monteiro, age 72, of Providence, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, at Berkshire Nursing Home.
Born on April 4, 1953, Antone was the beloved son of the late Stanley Monteiro and Mary (Pina) Monteiro.
He spent his life rooted in Providence, where he was known for his quiet strength and presence among those who knew him.
Antone proudly served his country in the United States Army from November 29, 1973, through March 8, 1974. He was honorably discharged and received the National
Defense Service Medal. Antone is remembered with gratitude and respect for his honorable service to his country.
Following his military service, Antone dedicated his time to helping others, volunteering at the Providence Veterans Administration Medical Center and at local homeless centers.
His generosity and willingness to serve made a lasting impact on many lives. Antone was well known throughout the Fox Point and East Side communities of Providence, where he was a familiar and respected presence.
He will be rememberedfor his kindness, humility, and the connections he made with those around him.
In addition to his parents, Antone was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Monteiro, and his sister, Barbara Jones.
He is survived by his loving children: one son, Anthony Gomes of Providence, and two daughters, Tanisha Hill of Alabama and Kendra Gomes of Providence. Four brothers and four sisters, Stanley Monteiro Jr., Michael Monteiro, Fredrick Jones, Robert Jones, Linda Santos, Elizabeth Hector, Yevette Boulris, and Marie Mello.
He also leaves behind a host of cherished grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Antone will be deeply missed and leaves behind cherished memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes support toward funeral expenses.
