David Arruda Obituary

David Arruda, born on May 17, 1974, in New Bedford, MA, passed away on October 8, 2024, in Fall River, MA. He was the loving husband to Berth Arruda and Step-father to Pedro Silva. He was the beloved son of Rev. Duarte and Kathleen Arruda and a cherished brother to Kathleen Owens, Nathan Arruda, Stacy M. Morris, Krystal M. Garside, and Corey R. Garside.

David was known for his passion for working with his hands, often immersing himself in projects that involved fixing anything with a motor. His hobbies included working on vehicles, playing video games, flying RC cars, off-roading, and fishing. An avid fan of martial arts, he fancied himself a ninja in his own mind. He trained many years at Gillett's MMA in Tiverton, RI.

He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially surrounded by family, friends, and animals, with his cherished pets Chaos, Jade, and Tonka holding a special place in his heart. David was known for his boundless appetite, earning him the humorous title of having an "endless stomach." It was often said "give it to Davey, he eats everything."

His favorite place in the world was the hot springs of the Azores, and he loved relaxing with his favorite movies, including The Rocky Series, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. A unique talent he possessed was playing the harmonica, often filling the room with music. He lived by the inspiring words of his favorite quote from Sylvester Stallone in Rocky Balboa: "It ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward."

David is survived by his beloved wife and stepson, loving parents, siblings, and his adoring nieces and nephews: Andrew W. Desmarteau, Aaron W. Desmarteau, Caleb M. Owens, Landyn Weeks, Madison R. Morris, Leilah Weeks, and three great-nieces. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family requests and memorial contributions be made to the Animal Rescue League of Fall River located at 474 Durfee St. Fall River, MA. in lieu of flowers.
