Eric "Spuddy" Mckinney

Eric “Spuddy” McKinney, unexpectedly passed away on June 24, 2025.

Eric was born on August 12, 1958, in Providence, RI to the late Rev. Martha J. McKinney and Burt Freeman.

Eric was a student at the Providence Public School system from, Flynn Elementary School to Central High school.  He was loved basketball and watching football.  One thing that he was most passionate about was looking out and catering to his nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews all of their lives.  Eric would put Sundays aside to get a home cooked meal at one of his nieces’ homes.  Eric was laid back and loved to listen to his old school music while burning a bush (lol).

Eric leave to mourn him, his companion Gina Whitmire of Newport RI, four sisters Alta Wilkerson, Robin Ross both of Providence, RI and Darlene McKinney of North Providence, Pasty Shorts (John), of Windell, NC, two brothers James McKinney and Andrew Freeman also both from Providence, RI, and God-daughter Lisa Wilkerson of Providence, RI, and a brother from another mother Tedrick Wilkerson from Fayetteville, NC, and a whole host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends that loved him and have lots of good memories of the time they shared with him.

Eric predeceased in death his parents, four brothers John Graham, Samuel Watson, William and Herbert McKinney.

He will be deeply missed by all.
