Lorraine McKinlay Obituary

Lorraine Bernadette (Bessette) (Sequeira) McKinlay

Rejoice in Heaven, You shall be missed

In the early morning of April 5th, Lorraine McKinlay of Melbourne, FL, passed away at her home in the presence of her devoted husband, Bill McKinlay.

The daughter of Herve and Bernadette (Caouette) Bessette (deceased, formerly of Central Falls, RI), Lorraine was born on March 1st, 1940. She lived in Central Falls and Pawtucket, RI, and attended Catholic schools there. In 1960 she married George Sequeira, from Pawtucket, RI. They lived in Central Falls, then South Attleboro MA, and later in North Attleboro, MA. Together they were active members of St Theresa of the Child Jesus Church in South Attleboro for many years, Lorraine was a part of the CCD program, a Eucharistic minister, and parish secretary; George was very active in the Knights of Columbus, and worked maintenance at the church for a time. During this time at various points Lorraine volunteered at Notre Dame Elementary School in Central Falls, taught at St Matthews Elementary School in Central Falls and Our Lady of Consolation School in Pawtucket. She also earned a Master’s degree in Theology at Providence College. On December 17th, 1995 Lorraine was widowed when her beloved husband, George, passed unexpectedly in his sleep.

After the mourning of her loss, Lorraine met Bill McKinlay, from Liverpool, U.K., and the two were wed in 2003. Shortly after that they moved to their home in Melbourne, FL. Together they enjoyed the weather, some golfing, and traveling, both in their state and elsewhere. Lorraine and Bill were ardent soccer fans, following the international teams and watching them on television. She was a member of Ascension Catholic Church and volunteered in the church library, their after school program, and the parish thrift shop before her eye-sight failed.

Lorraine is survived by her husband, Bill Mckinlay; her son, George A. "Tony" Sequeira and his wife, Karen, of Nottingham, NH; two grandchildren, Kaya and Jacob; two great grandchildren, Xander and Tessa; her sister, Claire Lockwood of Attleboro, MA; her brother, Gerard Bessette of Viera, FL; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00am Friday the 19th, at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church, 18 Baltic Street, South Attleboro, MA. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket.
