PAWTUCKET, RI – Maurice Leo Fontaine, 91, died peacefully, hand-in-hand with his devoted wife, June Fontaine, on May 11th, 2026.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Ovila and Juliette (Raymond) Fontaine.
Predeceased by his siblings, Roland, Arnold, and Dianne (Fontaine) Verrier Brown, and son, Joshua Cory, he shared with his wife, June.
As a young boy, Maurice began assisting his family at his father’s service station, which sparked a love for fixing and building his own cars. He was honored to serve in the Navy reserves and was promoted to educate the servicemen in the HVAC trade. He worked +42 years at the Seekonk Lace Company until its closure in 1991. He was very proud of the work he did there and kept a few samples to show people who visited.
As an avid musician, he was an organist with his brothers in their family band, “The Fontaines”. Maurice held an expertise level of knowledge in the field of electronics. Even inventing solutions when not otherwise available and selling those inventions to his eager clientele. Maurice’s legacy is beautifully carried on by his loving family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, June, and sister, Theresa (Fontaine) Jessop. He is also survived by his four children, shared with his former wife, Claire (Bertrand) Fontaine Lopez (deceased), Suzanne (Fontaine) Desent, Maurice Fontaine, Michael Fontaine, and Joanne (Fontaine) Rodrigues. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, as well as 18 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 18th, from 5 pm to 7 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 19th, at 11:00 am. Both held at the Darlington Mortuary of L Heroux & Son, 1042 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket, R.I.
Burial will immediately follow the service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, Riverside, R.I.
