Paul Joseph Church, 75 of Pawtucket, passed away on September 4, 2023 at Rhode
Island Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Providence, he is the son of
the late Chester and Mary (Sherman) church and a lifelong resident of Pawtucket.
After graduating from Mt. St. Charles High School in Woonsocket, he enlisted in the
United States Army. In 1968 he deployed to Vietnam and valiantly served with the
503 rd Airborne Infantry Regiment. He received the National Defense Service Medal,
Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Parachutist Badge, Combat
Infantry Badge and 2 Overseas Service Bars.
Prior to his retirement he worked as a Sherriff at the 6 th Division District Court in
Providence and at the Rhode Island State House for several years. Paul was an avid
tennis and hockey fan and enjoyed playing both throughout his life. He loved life and
lived it to the fullest.
Paul is survived by his former wife Jeanne (Polion) Church; a brother, David Church
of Pawtucket; two sons, Gary Church and his wife Luisa of Pawtucket, Craig Church
and his wife Joanne of Nashville, TN; six grandchildren, Kary Church, Keith Church,
Amber Church, Cory Church, Christian Church, Cody Church; 4 great grandchildren
and many nieces and nephews.
Beside his parents, Paul is predeceased by his brother, RI State Representative
Raymond Church.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023 at 11:30AM at
DARLINGTON MORTUARY OF L. HEROUX & SON, 1042, Newport Avenue,
Pawtucket, RI. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Rhode Island Veterans
Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
Calling hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday, September 10, 2023, from
5:00 – 7:00PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
